Bottled Gas Questions
The questions we get asked most at the yard, answered in one place.
Where can I buy bottled gas in Derry?
Foyle Gas, 23 Springtown Road, Derry, BT48 0LY. We sell propane, butane and patio gas cylinders from 5kg to 47kg, with free delivery to BT47 and BT48, or you can collect from the yard.
Do you sell Calor gas?
Yes. The cylinders we supply are Calor cylinders: Calor owns and fills them, and we deliver and exchange them across Derry. See Calor gas in Derry.
Do you deliver bottled gas?
Yes. Delivery is free to BT47 and BT48 and usually within 24 hours, Monday to Friday. Outside those postcodes, ring and ask: if we cannot reach you we will tell you who can. See delivery areas.
Which areas of Derry are BT47 and BT48?
BT48 is the city side: Culmore, Pennyburn, Springtown, Rosemount, Creggan, Shantallow, Galliagh, Carnhill, Ballymagroarty and Ballyarnett. BT47 is the Waterside and beyond: Drumahoe, Newbuildings, Strathfoyle, Prehen, Ardmore, Eglinton, Greysteel and Claudy.
How does a cylinder exchange work?
Bring your empty and swap it for a full one, and you pay for the gas only. There is no charge for the bottle on an exchange. A refill without an empty to exchange carries a service charge.
Can I swap a different size of cylinder?
Cylinders of 13kg and under can be exchanged for each other. Patio gas can only be exchanged for patio gas. Cylinders over 13kg can be exchanged with each other.
Which gas do I need for a patio heater or barbecue?
Patio gas, in a 6kg or 11kg bottle. It has a clip-on valve and will not fit a screw-in propane regulator. See which cylinder you need.
Propane or butane: which one?
Propane works in the cold, so use it outdoors, in sheds and caravans, and for anything used all year. Butane is for indoor cabinet heaters and portable fires in a heated room, because it stops working near freezing. They use different regulators.
How much is a gas bottle?
Every size has its live price on the shop page, from the 5kg butane up to the 47kg propane. All prices include VAT at 5%, the domestic fuel rate.
Do you supply restaurants and businesses?
Yes: restaurants, takeaways, coffee shops, workshops, caravan parks and catering vans across Derry, mostly on 19kg, 34kg and 47kg propane. See commercial supply.
