Which gas cylinder do I need?
Ten bottles on one page, all the same shape, tells you nothing about which one you need. Here is the short version.

Propane, butane or patio gas?
Propane keeps working in the cold, so it is the one for anything outdoors, in an unheated shed, or in use all year. It runs at a higher pressure and needs a propane regulator.
Butane gives more heat per bottle but stops vaporising near freezing, so it is an indoor gas — cabinet heaters and portable fires in a heated room.
Patio gas is propane in a bottle with a clip-on valve, made for patio heaters and barbecues. It will not connect to a screw-fit propane regulator, and it can only be exchanged for another patio bottle.
If you are replacing a bottle you already have, the simplest rule is to match what is on the old one — same gas, same size, same valve.
How exchanging a cylinder works
Calor owns and fills the cylinders. You are buying the gas in them, not the bottle, so bottles come back to us and go out again refilled.
- Bring the empty. Exchange your empty for a full one and you pay for the gas only. A refill without an exchange carries a service charge.
- 13kg and under can be interchanged with each other.
- Patio gas (Group A) can only be exchanged for patio gas.
- Over 13kg (Group C) can be exchanged within that group.
- Finished with a bottle for good? Return it and submit a service charge form to get your refund.
All prices include VAT at 5%, the domestic fuel rate.
